Basketball Game Preview: Northampton County Jaguars vs. Wilson Prep Tigers

Northampton County hasn't had much luck against Wilson Prep recently, but that could start to change on Friday. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Northampton County Jaguars challenge the Wilson Prep Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Wilson Prep is hoping to do what North Edgecombe couldn't on Thursday: put an end to Northampton County's winning streak, which now stands at five games. Northampton County came out on top against North Edgecombe by a score of 75-64.

It was another big night for Jiyoun Williams, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and ten boards. He is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Torrey Harris was another key player, putting up 21 points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Wilson Prep was able to grind out a solid victory over Southeast Halifax on Tuesday, taking the game 60-53. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 145th, while the Trojans are ranked 545th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Northampton County pushed their record up to 9-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.0 points per game. As for Wilson Prep, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.

Northampton County couldn't quite finish off Wilson Prep in their previous meeting back in December of 2024 and fell 74-72. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Wilson Prep's Donovan Dickens, who went 13 of 20 on his way to 32 points and eight rebounds.
