Basketball Recap: Monsignor Pace Takes a Loss

Monsignor Pace managed to keep up with Dade Christian until halftime on Wednesday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Spartans lost 73-49 to the Warriors. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Spartans of the 58-41 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in November of 2024.

Despite the loss, Monsignor Pace still got an impressive performance from Andres Lopez, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 22 points and three steals. Lopez is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Teagan Jordan, who posted six points.

Dade Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Gabriel Alonso out in front who earned 25 points along with five boards and three steals. Alonso continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Nikola Mirkovic, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Monsignor Pace's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Dade Christian, their win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0.

Coming up, Monsignor Pace will venture away from home to take on Marathon at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans' defense better be ready for this one: the Dolphins have averaged an impressive 58 points per game this season. As for Dade Christian, they will host Archbishop Carroll at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
