Basketball Recap: Jersey Panthers vs. Cahokia Comanches
Jersey was the 64-58 winner over Cahokia when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Jersey Panthers were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 51-50 to the Cahokia Comanches.
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaxon Brunaugh, who posted 18 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of John Paul Vogel, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 boards.
Cahokia was led to victory by Corrion Raiford and Cameron Edwards. Raiford went 6 for 9 on his way to 13 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals, while Edwards had 13 points. Raiford has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was C'Narri Griffin, who earned eight points and three steals.
Jersey has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season. As for Cahokia, their win bumped their record up to 9-13.
Jersey has already played their next game (against Highland), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Cahokia will head out on the road to challenge Carbondale at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st. Cahokia is facing Carbondale at the right time seeing as Carbondale is stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
