Basketball Game Preview: GVCS Broadfording Lions vs. Mountain Ridge Miners

GVCS Broadfording is 1-7 against Mountain Ridge since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The GVCS Broadfording Lions will be playing at home against the Mountain Ridge Miners at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in GVCS Broadfording's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine matches.

GVCS Broadfording is returning to their home court after beating Heritage Academy on theirs, despite the fact Heritage Academy has dominated at home this season. GVCS Broadfording snuck past Heritage Academy with a 66-61 win on Friday.

GVCS Broadfording can attribute much of their success to Daniel Cartwright, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds, and Fernando Garcia, who went 9 for 17 en route to 22 points and five steals. Garcia's evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Nashon Mann, who posted eight points.

Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Mountain Ridge's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 66-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of Fort Hill. While the Miners didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Sentinels 18-8 in the first quarter.

GVCS Broadfording pushed their record up to 13-6 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.0 points per game. As for Mountain Ridge, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-7.

GVCS Broadfording was taken down by Mountain Ridge 72-33 when the teams last played back in January of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Mountain Ridge's Cameron Breighner, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and ten boards.
