Baseball Recap: Harrells Christian Academy Finds Playoff Glory Versus Rocky Mount Academy

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Harrells Christian Academy walked away with it. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Rocky Mount Academy Eagles 4-2. This was a revenge game for the Crusaders: when they faced off against the Eagles back in April, they had to take a 12-0 loss.

Dawson Smith made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Smith was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Peyton Gomez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Harrells Christian Academy's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 6-11 when he doesn't).

Harrells Christian Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-12 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Rocky Mount Academy, they now have a losing record of 8-9.
