Basketball Recap: Cary Takes a Loss

Cary suffered their closest loss since December 1, 2023 on Friday. They fell just short of the Panther Creek Catamounts by a score of 48-45. While losing is never fun, the Imps can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 334th, while the Catamounts are ranked 141st).

Despite the loss, Cary still got an impressive performance from Kyndall Brewington, who posted 20 points in addition to seven steals and six rebounds. Brewington is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tanaija Patterson, who went 5 of 6 on her way to 12 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Cary smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Panther Creek's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Wynne Kinahan led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds. Those nine boards gave Kinahan a new career-high. Sasha Boddie was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Cary has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Panther Creek, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-6.

Cary will square off against Apex at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cary is facing Apex at the right time seeing as Apex is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Panther Creek, they will take on Green Level at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Green Level is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.8 points per game this season.
