Baseball Recap: Sterling Gets the Win

Sterling gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They won by a run and slipped past the Dixon Dukes & Duchesses 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Golden Warriors have posted since May 5th.

Drew Nettleton made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eli Penne, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Sterling and bumps their season record up to 14-20. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Dixon, their defeat was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 12-14.

Sterling does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Dixon, they will challenge Dunlap at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something the Dukes & Duchesses surely won't give up without a fight.
