Softball Recap: Antioch Has No Trouble Against Glencliff

While Antioch didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on the Glencliff Colts with a sharp 11-2 win on Wednesday. Considering the Bears have won six contests by more than eight runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Arianna Mitchell made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Mitchell was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Maliyah Perry and Chiari Batey did most of the damage at the plate: Perry went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three stolen bases, and two runs, while Batey went a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. Those five RBI gave Batey a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Avah Haynie, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Antioch was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .778. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.

Antioch's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Glencliff, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-6.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Antioch beat the Colts by a score of 11-2 later that day.
