Lake Norman found their leader in sophomore Kaden Craft, who rushed for 77 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 142 yards and one TD. The Wildcats also got a significant boost from Jayden Nordtveit, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 113 yards.
Meanwhile, Mooresville took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 45-13 victory over Statesville. The Blue Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by 28 points or more this season.
Lake Norman better keep an eye on Brody Norman. He was instrumental in Mooresville's win, throwing for 171 yards and four TDs, while also rushing for 41 yards and a pair of scores. What's more, Norman posted two rushing touchdowns, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gavin Barber, who picked up 80 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Mooresville proved: they limited Statesville to a paltry 0.7 yards per carry. The team can thank Maddox Blackburn for the heroic effort on defense: he. Mooresville's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.3.
Mooresville's defense also made the game a nightmare for the opposing QB, racking up 12 sacks. It was truly a group effort as Charles Sayre, Tanner Finnerty, Aaron Thomas, and David Di Leo picked up two apiece. Finnerty has been hot for a while, having also posted five or more total tackles the last 22 times he's played. Blackburn was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 12 total tackles (4.0 for loss).
Mooresville's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Lake Norman, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 7-2.
Friday's game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Craft and Norman. Craft just won't slow down this season and has thrown 15 touchdowns (and and only 2 pick) while averaging 158.1 passing yards per game. Norman has been a dominant force too and has thrown 25 touchdowns (and and only 4 picks) while averaging 183.6 passing yards per game.
Lake Norman ended up a good deal behind Mooresville when the teams last played back in November of 2024, losing 35-20. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Norman, who rushed for 118 yards and a pair of scores on only 11 carries, and also threw for 186 yards and three TDs. Now that the Wildcats know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
