Softball Recap: Southwestern Has No Trouble Against New Washington

Southwestern's game on Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. Everything went their way against the New Washington Mustangs as they made off with a 17-7 victory. The win continues a trend for the Rebels in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won nine in a row.

Chloey Leach made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up six earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Jenna Owens was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, two doubles, and one triple. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Rorie Scroggins, who went 4-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Southwestern's victory bumped their record up to 9-10. As for New Washington, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-11.

Coincidentally, Southwestern and New Washington will both be playing Providence the next time they take the field. The Rebels will host the Pioneers at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, while the Mustangs will head out to face them at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
