Basketball Recap: Great Hearts Anthem Falls to Cicero Prep Academy in First Game of Season

Great Hearts Anthem unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They were beaten by the Cicero Prep Academy Centurions 48-12 on Wednesday. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it four in a row.

Madi Hatfield was Great Hearts Anthem's leading scorer, having posted six points. Hatfield also led the team in rebounds with 13.

Leading Cicero Prep Academy to victory were Ryleigh Weaver and Sydney Celmins. Weaver posted ten points in addition to seven rebounds and seven steals, while Celmins scored 11 points along with seven boards and four steals. Those seven rebounds gave Weaver a new career-high. Catherine Johnson was another key player, putting up four points in addition to ten boards and four steals.

Great Hearts Anthem has already played their next matchup, a 50-35 victory against Valley Lutheran on the 21st. As for Cicero Prep Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 49-39 win against Marcos de Niza on the 24th.
