Volleyball Game Preview: Mattoon Greenwave vs. Mt. Zion Braves

Mattoon is 2-8 against Mt. Zion since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Greenwave will look to defend their home court against the Braves at 7:00 p.m. Mattoon will be strutting in after a victory while Mt. Zion will be coming in after a loss.

On Monday, Mattoon beat Robinson 2-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Greenwave.

Mattoon not only won, but also showed off some consistency: they kept Robinson between 17 and 18 points across their sets. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 25-18.

Brooke Jobe was the offensive standout of the match as she had eight digs and two aces. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in assists (three).

Jobe wasn't the only good servers: Mattoon was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Mt. Zion came up short against Mahomet-Seymour on Tuesday and fell 2-0.

Mt. Zion was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the first set very close. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 25-20.

The win got Mattoon back to even at 15-15. As for Mt. Zion, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-11.
