Softball Game Preview: Housatonic Mountaineers vs. Shepaug Valley Spartans

Housatonic is 0-10 against Shepaug Valley since April of 2021 but things could change on Monday. The Mountaineers will venture away from home to challenge the Spartans at 3:45 p.m.

Housatonic is headed into Monday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game dating back to last season on Wednesday. They lost 17-0 to Thomaston.

Meanwhile, Shepaug Valley had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Wolverines. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by nine runs or more this season.

Clare Moore was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Lexi Thomas, who went 2-for-4 with three runs.

Shepaug Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Shepaug Valley's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Housatonic, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.

Housatonic might still be hurting after the 22-4 defeat they got from Shepaug Valley in their previous meeting on April 8th. Can the Mountaineers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
