Baseball Game Preview: Oakwood Comets vs. Attica Red Ramblers

The Oakwood Comets will head out on the road to face off against the Attica Red Ramblers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Oakwood will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

On Friday, Oakwood got the win against Tuscola by a conclusive 11-4. With that victory, the Comets brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

Xander Wilson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Oakwood: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most two hits, but 6-7 otherwise. Wilson was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carsen Dudley, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Oakwood's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 5-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Brandt Hobick, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Covington hit Attica with a four-run first inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Red Ramblers fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 8-7. The Red Ramblers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Dane Goris made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, one triple, and one run. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

Attica's loss dropped their record down to 3-3-1. As for Oakwood, the win got them back to even at 8-8.

Everything went Oakwood's way against Attica in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Oakwood made off with a 14-4 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Comets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
