Basketball Recap: Sumrall Falls Despite Big Games from Kynlee Speed and Ella Robertson

If Sumrall was feeling good fresh off their 69-33 takedown of Purvis last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Sumrall Bobcats fell to the Pearl River Central Blue Devils 52-48. The Bobcats were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Blue Devils earlier this season, when they won 55-33.

Sumrall's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Ella Robertson, who went 8 of 19 on her way to 25 points, and Kynlee Speed, who posted 14 points. Robertson is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played.

Sumrall has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-11 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.6 points per game. As for Pearl River Central, they moved to 5-12 with that win, which also ended their five-game losing streak.

Sumrall will square off against Forrest County Agricultural at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Pearl River Central has already played their next game, a 54-27 defeat against Terry on the 14th.
