Baseball Recap: Marceline Find Success

Marceline barely beat Slater the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Marceline blew past Slater 8-1 on Tuesday. The Tigers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Cody Rodgers made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-4. He also brought in two RBI, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Wes Bradley, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those runs marked the first that he scored this season. Gage Teeter was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Marceline's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Slater, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marceline will welcome Linn County at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Slater, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Slater Wildcats challenge Wellington-Napoleon Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
