Baseball Game Preview: High Tech Mesa Thunder vs. Coastal Academy Stingrays

The High Tech Mesa Thunder will challenge the Coastal Academy Stingrays at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. High Tech Mesa is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.

While High Tech Mesa's victory against Gompers Prep Academy wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Thunder narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Eagles 11-9. The victory continues a trend for the Thunder in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won seven in a row.

Devin Schiel was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, KJ Allen was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. He has become a key player for High Tech Mesa: the team is 9-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Max Garijo, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

High Tech Mesa was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .486. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gompers Prep Academy only posted a batting average of .231.

Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Coastal Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They walked away with a 9-4 win over Foothills Christian. The game was the first time the Stingrays have beaten the Knights on their field since April 18, 2024.

Coastal Academy's victory bumped their record up to 18-7. As for High Tech Mesa, their win bumped their record up to 10-6.
