Gulf Coast waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top against the Barron Collier Cougars by a score of 28-21. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Sharks also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gulf Coast to victory, but perhaps none more so than Javien Altine, who rushed for 100 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries. Altine got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 57 yards. Julian Rodriguez was in the mix as well, providing Gulf Coast with two scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Gulf Coast was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 334 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 334 rushing yards in four consecutive contests.

Gulf Coast's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. Leading the way was Altine with two sacks. He also punched in three rushing touchdowns, which is notable because Gulf Coast is undefeated when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. The Sharks got some further help from Da'Nte Lindsey: he picked up a sack, made 12 total tackles, and defended one pass.

Gulf Coast's record now sits at 5-2. As for Barron Collier, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gulf Coast will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Bishop Verot at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th. As for Barron Collier, they will host Bonita Springs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars will be up against the Bullsharks' rather soft defense (which has allowed 34 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
