Basketball Recap: Douglas Byrd Comes Up Short

Douglas Byrd was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 14th straight defeat. They took a blow against the Lumberton Pirates, falling 78-25. The match marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Douglas Byrd's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Liam Irizarry, who posted 11 points and five steals, and Anthony Winston, who had six points and six boards. Irizarry has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played.

Jaiden Shephard was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds for Lumberton. What's more, Shephard also posted a 88% field goal percentage, which is the highest he's posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Lonnie Porter, who made all 5 shots he took racking up 10 points and six assists.

Douglas Byrd's defeat dropped their record down to 4-15. As for Lumberton, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 18-3.

Coincidentally, Douglas Byrd and Lumberton will both be playing Seventy-First the next time they take the court. Douglas Byrd will head out to face Seventy-First at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Lumberton will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
