Softball Game Preview: South Side Rams vs. Sewickley Academy

The South Side Rams will face off against Sewickley Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. South Side has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with four straight defeats, while Sewickley Academy will come in with seven straight wins.

South Side fell victim to Union Area and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 7-0 to the Scotties, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Meanwhile, while Sewickley Academy put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Cornell. Sewickley Academy blew past Cornell 15-0. The result was nothing new for Sewickley Academy, who have now won five contests by 12 runs or more so far this season.

Sewickley Academy got a massive performance out of Quincy Sirko (2025), who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and six RBI. That home run marked the first that Sirko (2025) launched this season. Keira Church (2027) was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.

Sewickley Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .591. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in five consecutive games.

Sewickley Academy pushed their record up to 7-0 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. As for South Side, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. South Side has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Sewickley Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Everything went South Side's way against Sewickley Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, as South Side made off with a 15-4 win. Do the Rams have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sewickley Academy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
