Preview: Notre Dame Catholic Lancers vs. Newtown Nighthawks
The Notre Dame Catholic Lancers will head out on the road to face off against the Newtown Nighthawks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Notre Dame Catholic is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
Last Thursday, Notre Dame Catholic came up short against New Fairfield and fell 39-32. That's two games in a row now that Notre Dame Catholic has lost by exactly seven points.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Madison Gibbs, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Elise Chanka, who scored six points along with 11 rebounds and two blocks.
Newtown posted their biggest win yet this season on Thursday. They blew past Weston, posting a 62-34 win at home. Newtown has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matches by 24 points or more this season.
Notre Dame Catholic's defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-9. As for Newtown, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.
Notre Dame Catholic came up short against Newtown in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 48-36. Can Notre Dame Catholic avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
