Basketball Recap: Leesville Road Pride vs. Sanderson Spartans
After flying high against Athens Drive last Monday, Leesville Road came back down to earth. The Leesville Road Pride fell to the Sanderson Spartans 81-76. While losing is never fun, the Pride can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while the Spartans are ranked 16th).
Sanderson was led to victory by Nathan Fife and Gordie Balas. Fife to rack up 35 points along with seven assists and five boards, while Balas almost dropped a double-double with 26 points and nine rebounds. The matchup was Fife's fourth in a row with at least 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Malakhi Murphy, who posted ten points and eight rebounds.
Leesville Road's loss dropped their record down to 16-10. As for Sanderson, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 22-3.
Looking ahead, Leesville Road will venture away from home to square off against Holly Springs at 6:30 p.m. on February 25th. Holly Springs will roll in looking for their 12th straight win, something Leesville Road surely won't give up without a fight. As for Sanderson, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 68-51 victory against Cardinal Gibbons on the 22nd.
