Baseball Game Preview: Greenfield-Central Cougars vs. Fishers Tigers

Greenfield-Central is 2-7 against Fishers since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Cougars will square off against the Tigers at 10:00 a.m.

On Thursday, Greenfield-Central came up short against Delta and fell 7-4.

Zander Cobb was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Fishers hadn't beaten Noblesville on the road since April 14, 2022 but that history sure didn't bother them on Friday. The Tigers skirted past the Millers 2-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.

Hayden Werner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up ten Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Fishers' win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Deagan Repp, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double. Mayo Fernandez also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Fishers' victory bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Greenfield-Central, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 4-3.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Greenfield-Central has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Fishers struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Greenfield-Central suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Fishers in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
