Softball Recap: Chippewa Hills' Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Chippewa Hills can bid farewell to their eight-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Merrill Vandals. The Warriors not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 7th (when they won 16-1).

Ella Newman was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Chippewa Hills got a massive performance out of Erin Riesenberg, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Riesenberg has posted over her last 12 games. Hunter Howard was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

Chippewa Hills pushed their record up to 16-16 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Merrill, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-13 record this season.

Chippewa Hills will have a chance to go back-to-back against Merrill: the pair will be back at it again later today.
