The Athens Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the Sayre Redskins at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Athens is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.4 runs per game this season.

On Thursday, Athens came up short against Troy and fell 8-4. The match marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Athens saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Connor Davidson, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. Another was Brady Flynn, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Sayre was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 16th straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Canton, falling 13-5.

Karter Green put in work no matter where he played. He struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Riley McGaughey made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

Sayre's loss dropped their record down to 0-10. As for Athens, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 9-2.

Everything went Athens' way against Sayre in their previous meeting on April 3rd, as Athens made off with an 8-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
