Recap: Westminster Lions vs. Garden Grove Argonauts

The Westminster Lions's game two weeks ago was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Garden Grove as Westminster made off with a 69-49 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Westminster has posted since November 25, 2023.

Westminster's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Matt Tran led the charge by scoring 20 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Tran has scored all season. Vincent Ton was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five steals and two blocks.

Garden Grove lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Evan Juarez, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Drue Anzai, who scored 11 points.

Westminster's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-7. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.7 points per game. As for Garden Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.

Westminster will head out on the road to square off against Katella at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Katella focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Wednesday. As for Garden Grove, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Segerstrom at 6:30 p.m. Segerstrom is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
