Softball Recap: Bishop's Wins Going Away Against San Diego

Bishop made up a huge gap compared to their last game against San Diego, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Bishop's Knights put the hurt on the San Diego Cavers with a sharp 10-3 victory on Saturday. Considering the Knights have won four games by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Sydney Mafong spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Bishop's got a massive performance out of Jayla Stafford, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. With that strong performance, Stafford is now averaging an impressive 3.1 RBI per game. Bailey Brightenburg was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

The win made it two in a row for Bishop's and bumps their season record up to 5-1-1. As for San Diego, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.

Looking ahead, Bishop's will welcome Santa Fe Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Santa Fe Christian 2.8, Bishop's 3) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for San Diego, they have already played their next match, a 9-0 loss against El Camino on the 15th.
