Baseball Game Preview: Eagle River Wolves vs. South Anchorage Wolverines

The Eagle River Wolves are taking a road trip to challenge the South Anchorage Wolverines at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Eagle River comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Eagle River is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alaska's top teams: Chugiak, who was ranked third at the time (Eagle River was ranked 24th). The Wolves fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 10-9 on Wednesday. On the bright side, the nine- run performance marked the Wolves' highest-scoring matchup to date.

Brooks Inch made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Barker, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs.

Meanwhile, South Anchorage got the win against West Anchorage on Thursday by a conclusive 9-1. Considering the Wolverines have won eight games by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

South Anchorage is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Eagle River, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-9.

Eagle River suffered a grim 15-4 defeat to South Anchorage in their previous meeting on Saturday. Can the Wolves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
