Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lakeside Christian). Everything went their way against the Fivay Falcons on Tuesday as Lakeside Christian made off with a 19-5 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Lions considering their one-run performance the match before.

Jeremiah Gooch and Gavin Cappiello made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Gooch tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Meanwhile, Cappiello pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Lakeside Christian's success: when he allows at most three hits the team is 2-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't). At the plate, Gooch scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Cappiello scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most stolen bases Cappiello has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Chris Aguilera Pena and Cal Richey did most of the damage at the plate: Aguilera Pena got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Richey scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Lakeside Christian is undefeated when Aguilera Pena posts two or more runs, but 2-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Paul Benetis, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Lakeside Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory got Lakeside Christian back to even at 5-5. As for Fivay, they are on a 32-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-15.

We've got a battle between Lions coming up. As for Fivay, they will face off against Weeki Wachee at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Weeki Wachee's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Fivay's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
