League recap: Mantachie paces 3A Region 2 with four wins over past week

3A Region 2 league recap: 3/27/13

Top honors in the league this week go to Mantachie, which finished with four wins overall, good for best in the league. The Mustangs beat Nettleton 7-6.

Mantachie made the biggest jump in the standings this week, moving from fourth to first place in 3A Region 2 thanks to a 4-1 record over the past seven days. Meanwhile, Mooreville fell hardest in the standings, dropping from second all the way to fourth place after going 1-2 in the past week.

The Tigers' pitching was especially stingy this week, allowing ten hits and one walk to lead the league in both categories.

The league boasted eight .400 hitters over the past week. Leading the pack was Peyton Belk, who hit .875 by going 7-for-8.

Benjamin Bowen's nine RBIs this week were tops in the league. Bowen has 16 RBIs this season, third in the league.



The Mustangs' Nick Burns threw seven shutout innings in a 3-0 win over Nettleton on Tuesday.

Bowen drove in four runners on Friday in the Cougars' 10-9 victory over the Troopers. He went 2-for-5 and scored two runs.
