Softball Recap: Cardinal Gibbons Beats Leesville Road for Their Seventh Straight Victory

Cardinal Gibbons waltzed into their game on Tuesday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. Everything went their way against the Leesville Road Pride as they made off with an 11-1 victory. 11 seems to be a good number for the Crusaders as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Katie Scavone was incredible, scoring a run while going 4-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Mazzo, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Scavone wasn't the only one making solid contact: Cardinal Gibbons kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in seven consecutive contests.

Cardinal Gibbons' victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Leesville Road, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cardinal Gibbons will square off against Athens Drive at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Jaguars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.81 runs per game on average), something the Crusaders will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Leesville Road, they will challenge Broughton at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pride's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Capitals have averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season.
