Softball Game Preview: West Craven Eagles vs. Ayden - Grifton Chargers

The West Craven Eagles will head out to face off against the Ayden - Grifton Chargers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. West Craven is looking for their season's first win.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for West Craven's offense. They fell 3-0 to Ayden - Grifton on Wednesday. Eagles fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Chargers since on Wednesday.

For Ayden - Grifton's part, not much got past Kenlie Guthrie, who gave up just four hits to keep West Craven off the board. What's more, Guthrie gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Kinley Sumerlin was excellent, scoring a run while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits. Jo Nowell also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

West Craven's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Ayden - Grifton, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.
