Basketball Recap: Lincoln Gets the Win

Lincoln hadn't done well against Wheeler recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, the Lincoln Lions made off with a 67-66 victory over the Wheeler Warriors. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Rhode Island basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while the Warriors are ranked 68th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Lincoln to victory were Brian Gugel and Ace Cote. Gugel went 9 for 17 to rack up 22 points and seven boards, while Cote posted 22 points and seven assists. What's more, Cote also posted a 33% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's posted since back in December of 2023. Andrew Picozzi was another key player, putting up 11 points and five rebounds.

Lincoln's win bumped their record up to 13-8. As for Wheeler, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.

Lincoln didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 46-42 loss against North Providence on the 11th. As for Wheeler, they will be playing at home against Lexington Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Lexington Christian Academy will roll in looking for their 15th straight victory, something Wheeler surely won't give up without a fight.
