Baseball Recap: Antioch Finds Home Field Redemption Against Rio Vista

There's no place like home for Antioch, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 9-0 margin over the Rio Vista Rams on Thursday. The Panthers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Anthony Sanchez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. Sanchez was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. That stolen base was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Antioch let Julian Perez-Bussard and Daniel Mutter run wild. Perez-Bussard went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run, while Mutter scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Those two hits gave Perez-Bussard a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Borunda, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI.

The win got Antioch back to even at 2-2. As for Rio Vista, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-2.

Looking ahead, Antioch will welcome El Cerrito at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. El Cerrito is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Rio Vista, they will head out on the road to challenge Franklin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Franklin also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 7.9 runs per game.
