Softball Game Preview: Advanced Math & Science Academy Eagles vs. Westborough Rangers

The Advanced Math & Science Academy Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Westborough Rangers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Advanced Math & Science Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 14 runs per game this season.

Advanced Math & Science Academy was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Worcester Tech on Friday. Advanced Math & Science Academy never let Worcester Tech get on the board and left with a 19-0 victory. The win continues a trend for Advanced Math & Science Academy in their matchups with Worcester Tech: they've now won eight in a row.

Ava McLeod made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Makayla Laudate and Madelyn Glynn did most of the damage at the plate: Laudate went 3-for-4 with four runs and two RBI, while Glynn went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run. Those four RBI gave Glynn a new career-high. Grace Galvin was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Westborough's offense. They came up short against Nipmuc Regional on Friday, falling 13-0. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 18, 2019, but that streak is no more.

Advanced Math & Science Academy's record now sits at 6-1. As for Westborough, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
