Softball Recap: Independence Gets the Win

Independence hadn't done well against Memorial recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Knights walked away with a 5-1 win over the Warriors. This was a revenge game for the Knights: when they faced off against the Warriors back in March, they had to take a 6-4 loss.

Avery Hillier spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Megan McCadden, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February.

Independence's victory bumped their record up to 5-14-1. As for Memorial, they dropped their record down to 11-10 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Independence didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 14-3 loss against Liberty on the 10th. As for Memorial, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 5-4 win against Emerson on the 10th.
