Softball Recap: Astoria Continues Home Dominance on Tuesday

Astoria came tearing into Tuesday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Seaside Seagulls. The Fishermen have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Seagulls, too.

Taryen Wray spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Hailey Svensen and Aryana Adams did most of the damage at the plate: Svensen went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one RBI, while Adams went 1-for-3 with one home run. Svensen has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played.

Astoria hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive games.

Astoria pushed their record up to 10-2-1 with the win, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Seaside, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Astoria will face off against rival Scappoose at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Fishermen 3.2, the Indians 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Seaside is set to take on their familiar foe St. Helens at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
