Football Game Preview: Rock Bridge Bruins vs. Blue Springs Wildcats

The Rock Bridge Bruins will face off against the Blue Springs Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Rock Bridge's defense has only allowed 14.1 points per game this season, so Blue Springs' offense will have their work cut out for them.

Rock Bridge took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 38-21 win over Howell. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Bruins considering their ten-point performance the contest before.

Meanwhile, Blue Springs faced Liberty North in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Wildcats came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 27-14.

Rock Bridge better keep an eye on Corey Mayfield. He was instrumental in Blue Springs' win, rushing for 141 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 carries. Those 141 rushing yards gave Mayfield a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Erickson, who threw for 126 yards and one touchdown while completing 75% of his passes.

Blue Springs was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 221 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Blue Springs pushed their record up to 6-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 33.8 points over those games. As for Rock Bridge, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Rock Bridge couldn't quite get it done against Blue Springs when the teams last played back in November of 2019 as they fell 17-10. Can the Bruins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
