Basketball Recap: Bluefield Takes a Loss

Bluefield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 17th straight defeat dating back to last season. They had to suffer through a 61-10 loss at the hands of the Mingo Central Miners. While losing is never fun, the Beavers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 99th, while the Miners are ranked 31st).

Addie Smith continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Mingo Central, shooting 9-for-17 from long range and almost dropping a double-double on 38 points and nine steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Smith has scored at least a third of Mingo Central's points. Gianna Akers was another key player, putting up nine points in addition to eight boards and five steals.

Bluefield's loss dropped their record down to 0-12. As for Mingo Central, they pushed their record up to 8-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Bluefield will look to defend their home court on Monday against Summers County at 7:30 p.m. As for Mingo Central, they will venture away from home to square off against James Monroe at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
