Baseball Game Preview: Corinth Riverhawks vs. Granville Golden Horde

The Corinth Riverhawks will take on the Granville Golden Horde at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Corinth is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.

Corinth fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Hadley Luzerne on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 2-1. The Riverhawks were red-hot at the plate heading into the game (they scored no less than ten runs in the three contests prior), but the Eagles' pitcher proved too tough.

Edward Maguire spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits and racked up six Ks. Corinth is 2-1 when Maguire allows two or fewer earned runs, but 2-5 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Granville had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They never let the Cougars get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Golden Horde, who have now won four matches by ten runs or more so far this season.

Granville's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average this season. As for Corinth, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-6 record.

Corinth skirted past Granville 5-3 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Riverhawks repeat their success, or do the Golden Horde have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
