Basketball Recap: Summertown's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak at Home

Summertown was the 57-52 winner over Loretto when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Summertown Eagles took a hard 65-46 fall against the Loretto Mustangs on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 127th, while the Mustangs are ranked 16th).

Summertown lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kurt Burleson, who posted 16 points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Cole Campbell, who put up 12 points and six boards.

Summertown's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-5. As for Loretto, the win keeps them at an undefeated 20-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Summertown will challenge Battle Creek at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for Battle Creek: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Summertown has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road. Loretto has already played their next contest (against Lewis County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
