Baseball Recap: Rancho Cotate Cougars vs. Carmel Padres

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Rancho Cotate had no problem doing just that on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Carmel Padres, sneaking past 6-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.

Anthony Barbato looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jett Derammelaere was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gauge Cummings, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Rancho Cotate hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carmel struck out seven times.

Rancho Cotate's record is now 18-13. As for Carmel, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 21-11 record.
