Softball Recap: Five Straight Road Wins for Hillsboro

Hillsboro never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They blew past the Chillicothe Cavaliers 16-0. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by seven runs or more this season.

Camryn Spruell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Madison Dearmon was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Isabelle Brunck, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Hillsboro pushed their record up to 13-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for Chillicothe, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-4.

Hillsboro wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 3-1 victory against Notre Dame on the 24th. As for Chillicothe, they have also already played their next match, an 11-0 win against Waverly on the 24th.
