Flag Football Recap: Ventura Skates Past Madera with Ease

Ventura got themselves on the board against Madera on Friday, but Madera never followed suit. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Coyotes 42-0. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Cougars' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California flag football rankings (they are ranked 50th, while the Coyotes are ranked 454th).

A big part of Ventura's victory came down to the chemistry between Ava Ortman and her top target Mya Rodriguez. Ortman threw for 202 yards and six touchdowns while completing 80% of her passes while Rodriguez picked up 105 receiving yards and three TDs. Those six passing touchdowns gave Ortman a new career-high.

Ventura has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 10.0 points on average over those games. As for Madera, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-9.

Ventura didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 27-6 victory against Independence on the 27th. As for Madera, they will be taking part in a tournament against Gunn at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Titans' defense has only allowed 14.7 points per game this season, so the Coyotes' offense will have their work cut out for them.
