Basketball Recap: Hylton Bulldogs vs. Woodbridge Vikings

Hylton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They received a blow as they fell 56-39 to the Woodbridge Vikings. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 40-24 last Thursday.

Hylton's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Raegan Cathcart, who posted nine points along with five assists and five boards. Cathcart is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Madison Scroggins was another key player, putting up eight points.

Woodbridge found their leader in sophomore Maia Melendez, who went 7 for 16 en route to 20 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Melendez has scored at least a third of Woodbridge's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eleona Wilkins, who scored ten points.

Hylton's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Woodbridge, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hylton will square off against Mountain View at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Woodbridge, they will challenge Gainesville at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
