Preview: Riverview Pirates vs. Flat Rock Rams
The Riverview Pirates's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Flat Rock Rams at 5:30 p.m. on January 26th. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Monday, Riverview strolled past Jefferson with points to spare, taking the game 59-43. Given Riverview's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 60th, while Jefferson is ranked 510th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Riverview found their leader in underclassman Keira Logan, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds. That's the first time this season that Logan scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Poe, who scored 14 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Flat Rock can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent contest on Monday. They put the hurt on Milan with a sharp 60-34 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Flat Rock has posted since December 11, 2023.
Flat Rock got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lily Klein out in front who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. Klein has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times she's played. Madleen Hussein was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with three steals.
Riverview is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. As for Flat Rock, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Friday's match is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Riverview have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Flat Rock struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Riverview against Flat Rock in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 55-25 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Riverview since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
