Basketball Game Preview: Evergreen Cougars vs. Pueblo Central Wildcats

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Evergreen Cougars challenge the Pueblo Central Wildcats at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday... Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Evergreen picked up another tournament win last Saturday. They walked away with a 57-49 win over Bear Creek. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 107th, while the Bears are ranked 243rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Among those leading the charge was Roby Mitchem, who posted 16 points. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. Drew Yager was another key player, putting up 14 points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Pueblo Central really took it to Pagosa Springs for the full four quarters, racking up a 73-45 victory. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 24 points or more this season.

Pueblo Central found their leader in sophomore Jayden Jones, who had 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Darrin Hemphill, who put up eight points.

Pueblo Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

Pueblo Central's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Evergreen, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.
