Baseball Game Preview: Loudon Redskins vs. Sweetwater Wildcats

The Loudon Redskins will venture away from home to take on the Sweetwater Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Loudon took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Lenoir City, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Redskins narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Panthers 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Redskins have posted against the Panthers since April 22, 2022.

Boston Montooth tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jayden Capshaw, who scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Brycen Cosner, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Sweetwater, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top against Roane County on Wednesday by a score of 4-2 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).

Sweetwater pushed their record up to 12-4 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games. As for Loudon, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-11 record.

Loudon was able to grind out a solid win over Sweetwater when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 6-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Redskins since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
