Baseball Recap: Avon Sets Scoring Season-High Against Mccutcheon

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Avon). They were the clear victors by a 15-8 margin over the McCutcheon Mavericks on Monday. The Orioles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Isaac Kramer looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits.

On the hitting side, Brayden Salyer and Wyatt Pennington did most of the damage at the plate: Salyer went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple, while Pennington went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Pennington a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Bland, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.

Avon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McCutcheon only posted a batting average of .241.

Avon pushed their record up to 16-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for McCutcheon, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Avon will face off against Zionsville at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for McCutcheon, they will take on Benton Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mavericks are facing the Bison at the right time seeing as the Bison are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
