Basketball Recap: Richard Azu's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hampton over Mcdonough

Hampton lost against McDonough back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Hampton Hornets took a 59-45 bruising from the McDonough Warhawks. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 215th, while the Warhawks are ranked 37th).

Hampton's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Richard Azu, who posted 16 points. C J Geiger was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Zion Greene was his usual excellent self, going 8-for-15 on his way to 21 points and seven rebounds for McDonough. The contest was Greene's fourth in a row with at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Jaelen Kerbo, who went 6-for-13 to rack up 14 points.

Hampton's defeat dropped their record down to 14-14. As for McDonough, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-5 record this season.

Hampton has already played their next game, a 69-56 loss against Union Grove on the 14th. As for McDonough, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 61-51 win against Eagle's Landing on the 14th.
